Hero's Northern Lights
NOTE FROM THE ARTIST:
I’m reading a great but INTENSE book about consciousness. It’s written by a neuroscientist, so I have to read super slowly to grasp it.
One of the main points of the book is that there is something unmeasurable about our internal experience of the world. Basically, there’s a color to the individual soul that science can’t ever describe.
It made me think of my favorite Georgia O’Keeffe quote. It’s one I come back to all the time as deeply important advice for artists:
Making your unknown known is the important thing—and keeping the unknown always beyond you—catching crystallizing your simpler clearer version of life.
Well! Isn’t that beautiful.
With all of that in mind, this painting was my small attempt to crystallize a simpler and clearer vision of my internal life. It came out as a young Hero with his cute bunny antennae, sensing the vast energy of the northern lights behind him.
When you look at this painting, I hope you get the sense that there are always forces beyond us at work. Beautiful, rainbow-y forces. Healing, changing, light-filled forces. How we catch and crystalize them is unique to each of us.
