I love when get to paint over an old canvas for a Hero painting.

Something about Hero’s whole eco-punk image really aligns with that vibe; like graffiti over advertising in New York City, or like the climate protestors that threw paint on classic paintings.

Because the painting that sits below “Hero Defends The Earth” was so large and detailed, I got to go even deeper into texture and color to mask it. This piece really holds a near metric ton of high quality oil paints! It’s a joy to look at in person. When oil paint is applied thickly, the first thing I think is how “juicy” it looks.

I adore the symbol that came out near the end: The heart-compass always leading the way.
